Where Loyalty Lies Walkthrough: Manumit Hideout Entry
Where Loyalty Lies in Blood of Dawnwalker: the Notorious Infamy IV gate, entering the Manumit hideout, and why this Crake chain quest stalls for most players.
Where Loyalty Lies is the fourth quest in Crake’s Manumit chain — and the single most common stall point in The Blood of Dawnwalker’s ally questlines. Not because it is hard, but because the game never tells you the entry requirement. If the chain has gone quiet after Shadows in the Woods, this page is your answer.

Prerequisites: What the Game Doesn’t Tell You
Two gates stand between you and this quest:
- Complete Shadows in the Woods first. That is the quest where you meet the Manumits — Crake, Drogos, and Sara — and rescue Sara before time expires. Where Loyalty Lies only activates after it closes.
- Reach Notorious Infamy (level IV). This is the silent gate. The Manumit hideout does not open to a nobody — Crake’s people only trust a vampire who has made enough noise against the Boyars. If your Infamy is below IV, the quest marker simply never appears and the chain looks broken.
Raising Infamy means completing court activities against Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe — sabotage, ambushes, dungeon raids. Most activities cost 3 of the day’s 16 time segments, so plan evenings around them. The full economy is in the Infamy system guide.
Where Loyalty Lies: Step by Step
Once the Infamy gate is met, the quest runs cleanly:
| Step | Objective | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Check the chain is moving | Shadows in the Woods complete; Infamy at Notorious (IV) |
| 2 | Follow the marker to the Manumit contact | The contact appears in Svartrau City once both gates are met |
| 3 | Prove your reputation | Short dialogue; your Infamy does the talking |
| 4 | Enter the Manumit hideout | First real look at Crake’s operation: cells, recruits, supply lines |
| 5 | Meet the inner circle | Crake, Drogos, and Sara — the people you rescued in the woods |
The hideout visit is worth paying attention to. This is where The Blood of Dawnwalker stops treating the rebellion as background lore and shows you the machine: coded messages, stashed supplies, and recruits who flinch when a stranger walks in. It sets up everything the Knyazmaker ending is actually about — not killing Brencis, but deciding who rules after.
The Choice Inside
Inside the hideout, the Manumits test your commitment with a loyalty question — where your loyalty actually lies, which is the quest’s name doing quiet work. The community-tested answer: side with the rebellion’s people over its politics. Drogos and Sara remember how you treat them here in later quests, and What Hunts the Night — the next quest in the chain — opens differently if the hideout conversation went well.
There is no fail state. But there is a warmer version of Crake’s chain and a colder one, and this room is where the difference starts.
What Comes Next
Where Loyalty Lies feeds directly into the back half of Crake’s chain: What Hunts the Night, What Moves the Dead (where you learn his real name, Marat), and Who Pulls the Strings, which unlocks the Manumit route into the finale. Keep a manual save after this quest — the chain gets more personal from here, and A Closer Look later on is time-sensitive.
If you are tracking the whole rebellion storyline, the Crake character guide has the twelve-quest order, and the best quest order guide shows where this chain slots against Lacra’s and the Boyar courts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why won’t Where Loyalty Lies start? Nine times out of ten: Infamy below Notorious (IV). Run more court activities against the Boyars and it appears. The other possibility is an incomplete Shadows in the Woods — confirm Sara’s rescue finished.
Does Where Loyalty Lies expire? No individual quest expires, but everything sits under the 30-day family clock. If you are pushing Infamy late, watch the calendar.
Is the hideout choice permanent? It colors later dialogue but locks nothing. The chain’s real branching comes later, at the finale.
Can I do Crake’s chain and Lacra’s chain in the same run? Yes — they run in parallel and both should be finished before A Deal with the Devil. See the endgame checklist.
