The good ending in Blood of Dawnwalker is The Folk Hero — you defeat Brencis entirely on your own, with no allies and no deal. This is the hardest version of the final boss, but it gives the most personal, heroic conclusion. Here is every step and dialogue choice you need.

Good Ending cover

What “Good Ending” Means Here

Blood of Dawnwalker does not label endings as good or bad. Players call The Folk Hero the “good ending” because:

  • You reject Brencis’s deal entirely
  • You free the people of Laslea without selling out anyone
  • You prove you can win without help
  • The cutscene frames it as a heroic duel, not a betrayal

If you want the morally cleanest route with the most allies surviving, see The Knyazmaker. If you want the personal flex, this is it.

Prerequisites

Before you can even attempt The Folk Hero, you need:

  1. Defeat all three Boyars through their court activities
  2. Finish within 30 in-game days — the clock starts after the prologue
  3. Reach the final quest A Deal with the Devil
  4. Do NOT complete Lacra’s full questline — if you did, she will offer to help and you must refuse
  5. Do NOT complete Crake’s full questline — same reason

The trick is that you can complete some of their quests for rewards, but not the full chains that lock in their endings.

The Exact Dialogue Choices

When you reach A Deal with the Devil, Brencis offers you a choice. Here is what to pick:

  1. First dialogue: “Enough. Time to end this.”
  2. Second dialogue: Do not call Lacra. Do not call Crake. Do not negotiate.
  3. Third dialogue: Draw your weapon and attack.

If you pick “I just want my family back” or any negotation option, you lock into The Turncoat instead.

The Solo Boss Fight

Brencis is harder when you fight him alone:

  • More health — The fight lasts roughly 30% longer than with allies
  • More damage — His heavy attacks can two-shot you on normal difficulty
  • No aggro split — You cannot rely on Lacra or Crake to draw attention

Phase One: Brencis, the Knyaz

Standard sword duel. Watch for his overhead slam — it has a long windup but massive damage. Perfect Block it, then riposte.

Phase Two: Grotesque Ascendant

At roughly 50% health, Brencis transforms into the Grotesque Ascendant. This form has new attacks:

  • Blood tendrils — dodge sideways, not backward
  • Ground slam — jump or use Planeshift
  • Summon adds — kill them fast or they heal Brencis

The solo fight is a test of everything the game taught you. If you are struggling, see the final boss guide for a full breakdown.

What Happens After

The cutscene shows you standing over Brencis alone. No army, no allies, no deal. Just you and the body of the vampire who took everything.

The people of Laslea are free. Your family is safe. And you did it without selling your soul or relying on anyone else.

Common Mistakes

“I completed Lacra’s questline by accident”

If Lacra is present at the final quest, she will offer to fight with you. You can still refuse, but the cutscene changes slightly. The ending is the same.

“I ran out of time”

If you exceed 30 days, The Folk Hero is gone. The bad ending triggers instead. Manage your time with the day planner.

“I picked the wrong dialogue”

If you accidentally negotiate, you still have one chance. When Brencis asks you to confirm, pick the sword option instead. That reverts to The Folk Hero.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Folk Hero the canon ending?

The developers have not confirmed a canon ending. The Folk Hero is the most popular among players who want a heroic conclusion.

Can I get this on Duelist difficulty?

Yes, but it is extremely hard. The solo boss fight on Duelist is one of the hardest challenges in the game. Many players use The Turncoat on Duelist instead.

Does Esme’s medicine matter?

No. The Folk Hero does not involve the family rescue, so Esme’s fate does not affect this ending.
