Blood of Dawnwalker Drain All Bosses - What Happens If You Drain Everyone
What happens if you drain every boss in Blood of Dawnwalker? Every drain reward - Scarlet Shield, Shadowstorm - and the hidden cost in the Brencis fight.
Yes, you can drain every boss in Blood of Dawnwalker — and the game makes it one of the most tempting and most dangerous habits you can pick up. Draining a defeated vampire grafts their unique mutation onto Coen, stacking real power. But nothing in Vale Sangora is free. Here is every drain reward, every hidden cost, and whether a full-drain run is worth it.

How Draining Works
Whenever you down a vampire boss, the game offers two executions: kill, or drain. Killing pays out loot and Infamy. Drinking their blood instead:
- Sends you into Anachora, the Vrakhiri hell, for a short soul scene
- Grants the victim’s unique mutation or power — the game’s vampiric ability system is explicitly built around this
- Lets the victim beg: invite them in and their soul rides along in Coen’s head, or refuse and leave them to eternal torment
The mutation is the prize. The soul is the price tag.
Every Confirmed Drain Reward
| Boss | Drain Reward | Kill Alternative |
|---|---|---|
| Ambrus | Scarlet Shield — a defensive ability that absorbs punishment | Right Fist of the Knyaz trophy, Infamy |
| Bakir | Shadowstorm — a high-damage offensive mutation | Standard loot and Infamy |
| Xanthe | Community verification in progress — her bargain path is the documented alternative | Unique crafting materials; her network’s quests |
Scarlet Shield and Shadowstorm are not novelty skills. Scarlet Shield meaningfully softens later boss fights, and Shadowstorm adds burst that shortens them. That is why the drain path pulls so hard: two of the game’s best tools hide behind it.
The mechanic scales beyond the Boyars too — in the lore, every vampire carries their own mutation, and draining is how Coen collects them. Any further drain targets discovered by the community will follow the same pattern.
The Hidden Cost: Drained Souls Return
Here is what the Anachora scene does not tell you. Every soul you drain rides the connection back to its source — and its source is Brencis.
During the final confrontation with Brencis, each drained Boyar manifests inside Coen and turns against their former master. It looks like a gift. It is a trap: Brencis reabsorbs each manifested soul, and you must fight them again as part of the encounter. Drain all three Boyars and, in the worst case, you face Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe across the phases of the final boss.
Veterans describe the Brencis fight with all three drained lords as the game’s hardest version — longer, stranger, and with phase transitions that keep pulling old enemies back onto the field. Meanwhile the souls you refused to drain stay in Anachora and stay out of your fight.
Should You Drain All Bosses?
Drain Ambrus and Bakir, take Xanthe’s bargain. That is the community consensus for a first run:
- Scarlet Shield and Shadowstorm carry you through the mid-game and into the castle
- Spared Xanthe weakens the castle from outside, partially offsetting the extra enemies inside
- The Brencis refights are manageable if your build is online
A full-drain run — all three Boyars — is the connoisseur’s challenge: maximum power, maximum final-fight chaos. Save it for New Game+, when you know the fight.
One more wrinkle: if a Boyar is still alive when you reach Brencis (you never finished their court), you will face them at Greifberg Castle anyway — and draining is no longer an option there. Draining early is the only way to collect their powers at all.
The Anachora Choice Each Time
Every drain ends with the same invitation: let them in, or refuse. Inviting them in adds an inner voice with commentary through the rest of the run and a brief assist in the Brencis fight before the reabsorption. Refusing leaves them in hell and keeps your head quiet. Mechanically the invite costs nothing; flavor-wise it makes the final fight’s refights feel personal. The full breakdown is in the let the vampire in guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
What do you get for draining Ambrus?
Scarlet Shield, a defensive ability, plus the Anachora scene where you decide whether to invite his soul in. He returns during the Brencis fight.
What does draining Bakir unlock?
Shadowstorm, an offensive mutation. Like Ambrus, his drained soul returns inside the final boss encounter.
Is draining better than killing?
For Ambrus and Bakir, usually — the abilities outvalue the loot. For Xanthe, sparing her is better than either. The cost is the refight at the end.
Can you drain Brencis?
No. The final boss ends with an execution choice, but no drain option — Brencis’s power is the one thing Coen cannot simply drink.
Do drained bosses stay dead?
Their bodies are gone, but their souls persist inside you — and Brencis can pull them back out. Death by draining is not the end of the fight, just a relocation of it.
