What Level for Brencis - Prep, Loadout & How Long the Finale Takes

What level for Brencis in Blood of Dawnwalker? The game never says - here is what actually matters, the prep checklist, and how long the finale takes.

“What level should I be for Brencis?” is one of the most-asked questions about Blood of Dawnwalker’s finale — and the game never answers it. There is no recommended-level popup before A Deal with the Devil, no skull icon on Greifberg Castle. This guide gives you the practical answer: what the level curve actually looks like, what matters more than the number, and how much real time to block out for the endgame.

The finale’s difficulty is not tuned around your character level — it is tuned around decisions you made between days 16 and 28. The Court arc that unlocks the ending also forces you through dozens of activities, each paying XP, so a player who legitimately reaches max Infamy arrives near the level cap (30) almost by construction. Community speedrun reports of players arriving underleveled almost always involve skipping Court activities through the backdoor routes — which then backfires, because skipped Boyars return as castle minibosses.

So the honest answer to “what level for Brencis”: if you played the Court arc straight, you are already at or near the cap, and you are ready. If you rushed, the level is the least of your problems.

What Actually Matters More Than Level

Three preparation axes decide the finale more than stats do:

1. Which Boyars are still standing. Each undealt-with Boyar reappears inside Greifberg Castle as an extra fight. Clearing all three through the Court activities first is the single biggest difficulty lever.

2. Who owes you favors. Sparing Xanthe means no Blood Guard in the castle and no nightmare trap. Vampires you invited into Anachora — inviting Brencis’s court included — can intervene during the fight itself. A low-level Coen with allies fares better than a capped Coen alone.

3. Your loadout. The final boss guide details the fight; the short version for prep:

  • At least two healing items (there is no shopping trip once the finale starts)
  • Your best silver sword, upgraded at a grindstone
  • A full pool of Activation Charges for vampire abilities
  • The Phial of Xanthe’s Blood if you spared her — it grants Blood Surge without the drain
  • Armor upgraded for the damage type you keep dying to (the Brencis boss page lists phase-by-phase counters)

How Long Does the Finale Actually Take?

Plan a single dedicated session of a few hours, not a quick boss run:

  • The castle assault (Fall Before Dusk) — tunnel infiltration, prison rescue, courtyard siege, and any Boyar minibosses you left alive. This is the bulk of the time.
  • The approach — Xanthe’s trap if you killed her, or a cleared path if you spared her.
  • The Brencis fight — three phases (human swordsman, vampire abilities, Grotesque Ascendant). Skilled players report the duel itself in the 10–20 minute range; first attempts commonly run far longer. Budget at least an hour of attempts if this is your first soulslike-style multi-phase duel.

Community-reported full playthroughs land at 40–60 hours, with the finale representing a concentrated multi-hour block at the end — which is why the endgame checklist exists.

If You Are Underleveled Anyway

Maybe you skipped activities, drained a Boyar early, or just want the fight harder. Your fixes, in order of impact: clear remaining Boyars first (removes minibosses), buy or craft the strongest available silver sword, stockpile healing items past comfort, and lean on ally favors — an underleveled run with Xanthe’s help beats an overleveled run against her trap. Level-grinding past ~28 has diminishing returns; the finale’s damage checks assume your gear, not your stats.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you beat Brencis under level 25? Community challenge runs exist, but they rely on perfect play and maximum preparation. For a first playthrough, arriving near the cap through the normal Court arc is the intended experience.

Does New Game Plus change the recommended level? New Game Plus was not available at launch; check the current patch notes before planning around it.

Is the solo fight harder than the allied fight? Yes — the solo Folk Hero version removes ally interventions and court assistance. The Brencis guide covers both versions phase by phase.

What is the single best prep item? Healing. Two salves minimum, three if you are cautious. Every other lever is situational; running out of healing in phase three ends runs.

Does difficulty setting change any of this? The difficulty slider scales enemy damage and aggression, not the level curve — so the advice above holds on every setting, with stricter healing requirements as you raise it.
