The Knyazmaker Ending: How to Get Crake's Ending

The Knyazmaker ending in Blood of Dawnwalker: how to unlock Crake's twelve-quest route, the daylight assault in human form, and what makes this ending different.

The Knyazmaker is the ending The Blood of Dawnwalker named for what comes after the killing. Every route kills or spares Brencis; only this one asks who wears the title next. It belongs to Crake — Marat, as he finally tells you — and it is the longest optional storyline in the game, worth every time segment it costs.

How to Unlock It

The Knyazmaker requires Crake’s full questline — twelve quests, each unlocking the next, spanning Laslea Glen, Briar Sloughs, Boar’s Back, and Svartrau City. The chain runs from The Firebrand through Where Loyalty Lies — which demands Notorious Infamy (level IV), so court activities against the Boyars are mandatory, not optional — and on through Rise at Dawn into the finale, Fall Before Dusk.

The full order, with the choices that matter, lives on the Crake guide. Three rules prevent the two classic stalls: keep Mert alive in The Firebrand, comfort rather than blame Crake in What Hunts the Night, and if the chain stops progressing entirely, you have not reached Infamy IV — go raise it.

The Finale: A Different Final Quest

Where Lacra’s route attacks at night as a vampire, Crake’s assault happens during the day, in human form, with Crake and the Manumits at your back. That is not flavor — it is a mechanical sentence. The first phase of the battle locks your vampiric abilities, so this route punishes a pure-Vampirism build and rewards sword mastery and witchcraft. If you have been building blood magic all month, read the human-form fight guide before committing, and consider a respec.

The assault itself follows the castle’s full structure — tunnels, courtyard siege, throne room — with the skipped-Boyar tax applying exactly as it does on every route.

What Makes the Ending Different

The name is the thesis. Knyaz is the title; Knyazmaker is the one who decides who wears it. Where The Patricide is about what the vrakhiri are to each other and The Folk Hero is about winning alone, The Knyazmaker is about institutions — Crake’s whole arc is building something that outlasts him, and this ending pays that off. The achievement carries the same name, and the ending checklist counts it among the four finale-decided endings in A Deal with the Devil.

The epilogue reflects it: complete his chain and side with him, and Crake appears in the character fates montage as a leader — not just a rebel, but someone building the next thing. Betray him for The Turncoat and he dies instead.

Romance and the Real Name

Crake is one of three confirmed romance options, and his is the slowest burn — the scene arrives at the end of A Closer Look, and what matters is what he tells you after: his plan, his fears, his real name. Keep a save before Rise at Dawn; the finale is a point of no return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is The Knyazmaker the best ending? There is no official best, but the best-ending guide ranks The Knyazmaker and The Folk Hero as the most satisfying for most players. It is certainly the most political.

Can I get The Knyazmaker and The Patricide in one run? Both chains can be completed in parallel, but the finale commits to one ally per branch. Use the master save before A Deal with the Devil to see both from one month of work.

Does the day assault make the fight harder? Different, not harder — it tests human fundamentals instead of vampire mastery. Build-dependent; see the fight guide.

What carries into NG+ from this ending? The ending differences guide tracks NG+ bonuses per ending; The Knyazmaker’s epilogue state is among the more consequential for the valley’s next month.
