Tiny Dancer Walkthrough: Free the Caged Sanzhana in Svartrau
Tiny Dancer quest walkthrough in Blood of Dawnwalker: get into the merchant's shop, free the caged Sanzhana, and claim the legendary hidden reward.
Starting Tiny Dancer
The only Sanzhani quest set inside the city, “Tiny Dancer” begins with a sound that does not belong — a faint, wrong noise leaking from a merchant’s shop in southern Altenmarkt, Svartrau City, across from one of the Curious Houses. It becomes available after Good Home and can be done day or night.
Enter the shop and listen: the noise comes from upstairs, and the upstairs door is locked.

Getting Upstairs
Three approaches, all valid:
- Talk to the merchant and steal the key. Ask about the noise; he deflects. Wait for him to turn his back and lift the key from his table — the quiet route, no blood.
- Fight the merchant. It works, and it is louder than it needs to be. Expect guards.
- Come back at night. Circle to the rear of the house and climb to the balcony, entering the upper floor directly without ever dealing with the shopkeeper.
Inside the left room you will find the source of the sound: a Sanzhana locked in a cage. Her keeper is the merchant, who kept her around for his amusement.
Freeing Her and the Hidden Reward
The cage key sits on the table in the same room — grab it, open the cage, and the Sanzhana is free. The act costs two time segments, and the quest technically ends there.
Do not leave yet. The freed Sanzhana reveals the merchant’s hidden treasure: activate Focus Mode and check the boards on the floor of the other upstairs room. Under them: silver and sundry loot — and in a chest, the Coat of Darkened Scales, a legendary chestpiece. For a two-segment errand, that is one of the best item-per-minute ratios in the game, and a strong argument for checking every “suspicious sound” the valley offers. The silver feeds the same economy as our silver farming route.
Rewards and the Cluster
Tiny Dancer pays 75–100 XP (trackers disagree on the exact figure — both numbers appear across databases) plus one letter toward Letters to Lunka. If this completes your fifth Sanzhani favor, the Tsarina grants the Tsarina’s Favourite Human trophy and — more importantly — the extra day on the coronation clock. Because it is the shortest of the five, it is the ideal “banker quest” to finish the cluster when the other four are done.
Day Versus Night Approaches
The two stealth routes diverge more than the quest suggests. Daytime means walking in through the front door: talk to the merchant, watch his patrol loop, and lift the shop key from his table during the window when his back is turned — clean, but it demands patience and a little nerve if his route varies. Nighttime skips the social layer entirely: circle the building, climb to the rear balcony, and you are standing in the fairy’s room before the merchant knows anyone visited. Either way, the cage key is on the same-room table and the floorboards hide the silver afterward. The night route wins on reliability; the day route wins on style. Fighting the merchant is the third option and the worst of the three — a dead shopkeeper complicates your exit from the district for no gain the stealth routes do not already offer.
The Merchant Afterward
Freeing the fairy does not close the shop or punish the merchant in any mechanical way — his trade continues, and the city forgets. Whether that is a missed consequence or a deliberate statement about how the occupation normalizes small cruelties is the kind of reading the game leaves open. The Sanzhana, for her part, relocates to the Tsarina’s burrow with the rest of the rescued fairies, which doubles as your progress counter: count the heads around the Yawning Burrow to know how many of the five favors you have banked. If she was your last, the Tsarina’s reward conversation plays on the spot.
One last note on timing: because the shop stays open around the clock, this is one of the few Sanzhani favors you can complete entirely on your own schedule — even mid-route through an unrelated Svartrau errand, the two segments fit into almost any gap in the day.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does freeing the Sanzhana get me in trouble with the merchant? Not if you steal the key unseen or enter at night. Killing him is the only version with consequences, and they are ordinary guard-attention consequences.
Is the Coat of Darkened Scales missable? The quest persists until the finale, but the chest is easy to walk past — free the fairy, then immediately sweep the second room in Focus Mode.
Which Sanzhani quest should I save for last? This one. It is the cheapest to complete, so it flexes into whatever gap remains in your schedule.
