Blood of Dawnwalker Patricide Ending - How to Get the Lacra Ending

How to get the Patricide ending in Blood of Dawnwalker. Complete Lacra's full questline, unlock Midnight Reckoning, and defeat Brencis together.

The Patricide is the ending you earn by finishing Blood of Dawnwalker with Lacra at your side. It is the darkest of the four full endings: a night assault through ancient ruins, the destruction of Brencis’s Blood Ritual, and a victory that frees one woman while damning a valley. Here is every requirement and the full walkthrough.

Patricide Ending cover

What Is the Patricide Ending?

In The Patricide, Coen does not storm Greifberg Castle with an army or alone — he goes in with Lacra, the assassin who came to Vale Sangora to kill Brencis. Together you fight through the castle, destroy the ritual that binds her, and bring down the Knyaz of Vale Sangora.

The victory is real but bleak. With Brencis dead and no faction ready to rule, chaos reigns in the valley — much like the Folk Hero outcome. And the price of breaking the ritual is written across the castle itself.

Requirements Checklist

  • Complete every Lacra quest, starting with A Friend Like This
  • Progress through her quest chain: Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots, The Night of Horrors
  • Unlock her final quest: Midnight Reckoning
  • Speak to Lacra in her hideout to begin the assault
  • Finish the run within 30 in-game days
  • Do not commit to Crake’s finale instead — the Knyazmaker and Patricide finale choices are mutually exclusive in A Deal with the Devil

If you are also advancing Crake’s chain, be careful: completing the Manumit finale commits you to The Knyazmaker. Keep a manual save before the point of no return so you can see both endings from one run.

Walkthrough: Step by Step

Step 1: Build the Relationship (Days 1-15)

Lacra’s chain is long, so start early. Her first quest, A Friend Like This, introduces her real mission: she is bound to Brencis by a Blood Ritual, and she wants him dead as much as you do. Each subsequent quest deepens the partnership and moves her ritual’s location closer to the surface.

Do not rush the Boyars at the expense of her chain — if Midnight Reckoning is not available when you reach the finale, the option simply will not appear.

Step 2: Midnight Reckoning (Days 15-28)

Once her chain is complete, Lacra offers the assault. The opening is different from every other route: you set off at night, through the ancient ruins below the city, to find a way up into Greifberg Castle. Expect more supernatural enemies than the standard assault and a slightly different route through the keep.

Step 3: The Castle Assault

The defining mechanic of this route is the Blood Ritual. Lacra’s binding is anchored in Brencis’s ritual, and destroying it is part of the assault. The ritual’s collapse turns the castle into a house of the undead and kills the prisoners within — everyone except your family. If you spared people along the way, this is the moment the game makes you count the cost.

Step 4: Coen and Lacra vs Brencis

The final fight itself is a two-on-one duel: you and Lacra against Brencis. It is the standard multi-phase Brencis encounter with an AI partner drawing aggro — noticeably easier than the solo Folk Hero version, though Lacra can be downed if you leave her to tank alone. Finish Brencis and the Patricide ending plays.

What Happens in the Ending

Lacra’s ritual is broken — she is free for the first time since Brencis claimed her. The epilogue slides show the valley without its Knyaz: no revolution, no new order, just a power vacuum and the people left inside it. The ending slides also recap your choices across the 30 days, so finish side content the way you want it remembered.

What You Unlock

  • The Patricide achievement/trophy
  • The Blood of Dawnwalker completion achievement
  • In the Nick of Time if you finished within 30 days with your family alive
  • New Game+ access, with Lacra’s fate reflected in NG+ dialogue

Why Choose the Patricide?

Choose it if Lacra’s story was the thread you cared about most. Mechanically it is the middle-difficulty finale: easier than the solo Folk Hero fight, harder to unlock than the Turncoat. Narratively it is the ending about personal loyalty over ideology — you save one person completely instead of saving a system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is it called the Patricide?

The title refers to Brencis’s role as the “father” of the Vrakhiri bloodline and the cutscene context of the kill. The full narrative weight of the name lands in the ending itself — it is best experienced unspoiled.

Can I get the Patricide and the Knyazmaker in one playthrough?

Not in a single run — the two finale choices are exclusive. But one master save before the final quest lets you reload and see both, since the game returns to the title screen after credits.

Does Lacra survive the ending?

Yes — breaking the ritual is the point of the route. Her freedom is the ending’s core reward.

Do I need to romance Lacra for this ending?

No. Her full questline is required; romance is not. Romance changes dialogue but not the unlock.
