Blood of Dawnwalker Let the Vampire In - Should You Accept Ambrus?

Should you let Ambrus in after draining him in Blood of Dawnwalker? What the invite him in choice does, the Anachora scene, and why refusing ends his story forever.

“Let the vampire in” is one of the strangest choices in Blood of Dawnwalker — and one of the most missable. It only appears if you drain Ambrus instead of killing him, and the game never explains what it means until you pick. Here is exactly what happens in the Anachora scene and whether you should accept the vampire’s offer.

How You Reach This Choice

The “let him in” moment is hidden behind two earlier decisions:

  1. Choose to drain Ambrus, not kill him, after winning the duel in The Gilded Gauntlet. Draining him grants the Scarlet Shield ability and pulls both of you into Anachora — the Vrakhiri hell where defeated vampires suffer eternal torment.
  2. Watch the scene. A beaten, terrified Ambrus begs to be spared from eternity in Anachora. Part of his soul offers itself to you: invite him in, and he lives on inside Coen.

If you killed Ambrus instead, or never drained him, this choice never appears.

What Happens If You Let Ambrus In

Accepting lodges a splinter of Ambrus’s soul inside Coen. From then on:

  • He becomes an inner voice. Ambrus comments on your actions and decisions from time to time, adding snarky or bitter extra dialogue to scenes for the rest of the run.
  • He answers for his crimes. The voice is aware of what he did — the commentary tends toward the self-loathing.
  • He assists in the Brencis fight. During the final confrontation, Ambrus manifests briefly against his former master. Brencis then reabsorbs him — and you must fight Ambrus again inside the boss encounter. The same mechanic applies to any drained Boyar.

What Happens If You Refuse

Ambrus stays in Anachora, suffering for eternity. His storyline ends there: no voice, no commentary, no return in the final fight. Coen walks out of the vision and continues exactly as before.

There is no reconciliation scene later. Refusal is permanent for that run.

Should You Let Him In?

For most players: yes. Inviting Ambrus in is the more rewarding option:

  • Extra commentary and scene variation at zero cost
  • A brief assist during the Brencis fight (he draws attention before being reabsorbed)
  • No effect on which ending you get — you can still spare or kill who you want, romance who you want, and reach any of the seven endings

The one real cost is emotional: you carry the man who terrorized villages inside your head, and the final fight makes you beat him one more time. Some roleplayers find refusing the cleaner justice. Mechanically, though, there is no long-term downside — and the refight is not optional either way if you drained him.

The Bigger Picture: Drained Boyars Always Come Back

The Ambrus refight is not unique. If you drain Boyars instead of killing them, each one returns inside the Brencis encounter — manifested, then reabsorbed, then fought. In the worst case you face all three drained lords across the phases of the final boss. It makes the fight longer and stranger, and it is the hidden price of stacking drain rewards like Scarlet Shield and Shadowstorm. The full trade-off matrix is in the drain all bosses guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does letting Ambrus in change the ending?

No. It adds commentary and a final-fight cameo, but all seven endings remain available exactly as before.

Can I let Ambrus in and still get the Right Fist of the Knyaz trophy?

No — that trophy requires killing him. Drain and kill are mutually exclusive per run; the drain path gives Scarlet Shield instead.

Is the Ambrus voice annoying?

Subjective, but the writing leans self-aware rather than constant. He comments at scripted moments, not constantly.

What if I drained Ambrus but never saw Anachora?

Anachora triggers as part of the drain sequence. If you chose “kill” at the downed prompt, you took the other branch entirely.
