Blood of Dawnwalker Rogue Choice - Pursue the Rogue Vrakhir or Not
The rogue Vrakhir choice in Blood of Dawnwalker: pursue the rogue vampire in Svartrau to start A Friend Like This, or ignore it - and what each path costs.
Early in Blood of Dawnwalker, the game asks its quietest question with no quest marker at all: a rogue Vrakhir is stalking the streets of Svartrau — do you pursue it, or is it not your problem? The choice looks trivial. It is actually the front door to one of the game’s biggest storylines: Lacra, the Patricide ending, and everything that follows her.

The Situation: Something Hunting in Svartrau
Spend time in Svartrau City and supernatural signs of a struggle appear near the cathedral — evidence that something fast, strong, and vampire is operating in the city. Nobody hires you to look into it. Nobody marks it on your map. The game simply lets you notice.
That restraint is the point. This is the opening of A Friend Like This, the first quest of Lacra’s chain — and whether the chain exists in your run depends on what you do with the clue.
Option 1: Pursue the Rogue
Following the signs triggers the quest proper: a hunt through the city that ends with an introduction to Lacra, an ancient vampire who came to Vale Sangora for exactly one purpose — killing Brencis. By the end of A Friend Like This, you can forge an alliance with her.
Say yes, and her entire questline opens: Song of the Mountain, Hive and Seek, Our Rotten Roots, The Night of Horrors, and finally Midnight Reckoning — the finale that produces The Patricide ending. Along the way: a potential romance, a partner in the castle assault, and one of the game’s most-written characters as a companion.
There is an alternative trigger: slaying Ambrus also surfaces Lacra’s trail for players who missed the city encounter. But counting on that is a plan B — the direct route is the pursuit.
Option 2: Walk Away
Decide the rogue Vrakhir is not your problem, and the game agrees with you — permanently. There is no timer warning, no second nudge. The coronation clock keeps running, and eventually A Friend Like This is simply taken off the board. The quest fails by omission: Lacra’s chain, her ending, her romance — all of it silently closes for that run.
This is Blood of Dawnwalker’s core design philosophy in one choice. Inaction is a decision. The 30-day budget means every ignored thread is a thread deleted, and the game logs your neglect as faithfully as your violence.
What the Rogue Choice Really Decides
Strip away the framing and this choice is three decisions in one:
- Content: an entire multi-quest storyline, roughly a fifth of the game’s character writing
- Endings: The Patricide exists only behind Lacra’s chain — no pursuit, no Patricide
- The final fight: her presence in the Brencis encounter is the difference between the mid-difficulty allied finale and the solo grind
It also interacts with the other chains. The Knyazmaker needs Crake’s questline; the two alliances are the backbone of a completionist run, and the ending checklist assumes you started both.
Which Should You Pick?
Pursue, unless you are deliberately running a minimal playthrough. The investigation costs a few time segments, and the payoff spans the rest of the game. Walking away only makes sense for speedruns aiming at the early endings — and even those can spare the segments, since Lacra’s content sits off the critical path of the secret endings.
If you are roleplaying a Coen who trusts no vampire, know the cost up front: the game honors your suspicion by deleting her.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the rogue Vrakhir in Svartrau?
Lacra — an ancient vampire hunting Brencis. Pursuing the signs of her activity starts the quest A Friend Like This.
What happens if I ignore the rogue Vrakhir?
Nothing dramatic: the 30-day clock keeps running and the quest is eventually removed from the board. Lacra’s entire questline becomes unavailable for that run.
Can I still meet Lacra if I miss the Svartrau encounter?
Yes — slaying Ambrus also triggers her questline as an alternate route.
Does the rogue choice affect Infamy or other systems?
No. It is a pure content gate: the decision determines whether Lacra’s storyline exists in your run, not how the world scores it.
