Give Back the Mysterious Ring? Lost Blood Choice Explained

The Mysterious Ring: sell it back or keep it in Blood of Dawnwalker? The Lost Blood finale - the grieving merchant, the choice, and the Medicus II Manual.

At the end of Lost Blood, a merchant recognizes his son’s ring in your loot and asks, quietly, whether you found it. What you answer — and whether you sell it back — is one of Blood of Dawnwalker’s smallest, saddest choices. Note this is the Mysterious Ring from the Lost Blood side quest — not Farkas’s ring, which is a completely different item with its own moral maze.

The Quest: Lost Blood

It starts at a wrecked blood cart in northern St. Tyna’s Grove, near the Pilgrim’s Trail Shrine — an abandoned transport, smashed wheels, and no soldiers anywhere, which is itself the mystery: where did the escort go? Investigate with Focus Mode, follow the blood trail west into a cave, and kill what you find: Murohn, Malformed Monstrosity — a proper boss-tier fight, not a roadside enemy. Block on timing, dodge the charge, and do not leave the cave early, because the corpse holds the quest’s real prizes:

  • The Phial of Ambrus’s Blood — drinking it permanently unlocks the Scarlet Shield passive in the Vampirism tree (at a sharp Corruption cost)
  • The Mysterious Ring — the choice item
  • A letter identifying whose son became Murohn

Take everything to the Silberstein General Trader in Svartrau. He recognizes the family emblem, works out the monster you killed was his boy, and shuts the shop to grieve. When you return the next day, he apologizes for blaming you and asks his question.

The Choice

AnswerResult
“I do.” (admit you have the ring)He offers to buy the Mysterious Ring back for extra Denarii. Selling is optional even now
“I don’t, sorry.”He mourns and reminisces about his son. No karma impact; he remains a vendor

The ring itself is a modest accessory; community testing reports no standout stats. The sale is straight coin with no other benefit — and if you sell and regret it, he stocks it afterward, so you can simply buy it back.

What Never Changes

Whatever you do with the ring, the quest’s spine is untouched: the Medicus II Manual (one of the better early skill manuals), the phial, the XP, and the completion all arrive regardless. This is a pure character moment — the game asking what kind of person Coen is when a stranger’s grief is standing in front of him, and no reward is riding on the answer.

The phial deserves its own word of caution: drinking the Phial of Ambrus’s Blood permanently unlocks Scarlet Shield but spikes Corruption sharply, so decide before you sip whether the passive fits your build. It is also one of two known ways to obtain that unlock, which makes Lost Blood quietly efficient — a boss fight, a manual, a unique consumable, and a moral vignette, all inside a quest most players stumble into by following a blood trail.

If you are deciding between drinking the phial and draining Ambrus yourself for his power, note that the phial’s unlock is a different, safer lane: it costs no invitation, no Corruption from a feeding scene at the boss, and no risk of inheriting his poisoned state. The Corruption spike is real either way, but the phial arrives early enough that its passive pays compound interest across the whole month.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Mysterious Ring the same as Farkas’s ring? No. Farkas’s Ring (the Ring with the Purple Eye) drives The Ring quest and the Farkas decision. The Mysterious Ring is Lost Blood’s coda. Same iconography, totally different stakes.

Should I sell it? For coin, it is negligible. The only reasons to hand it over are role-playing — the merchant lost his son; the ring is his last piece of him. Keeping it costs nothing mechanical.

Can I miss the phial? Only by leaving the cave without looting Murohn’s corpse. The phial is permanent once picked up and cannot be lost afterward.

Does waiting to return affect the quest? His shop stays closed roughly one in-game day; returning earlier does nothing. Otherwise the quest waits indefinitely.

Is Lost Blood worth doing early? Yes — unusually so. The Medicus II Manual, the phial, and a boss fight’s XP all scale with early-game needs, and the Murohn duel is one of the gentler boss-tier encounters. Community consensus ranks it among the best side quests to clear in the first week, and its St. Tyna’s Grove location neighbors the relic quest for easy routing.
