Heile guide cover

Heile never holds a weapon, sells an item, or joins a fight - and she is still one of the most searched names in The Blood of Dawnwalker’s side-content. She is the human stake of the Good Home quest: the sister whose captivity turns a fairy errand into a family story, and the first proof that the Sanzhana’s tooth economy deals in people as readily as in enamel. This guide covers who Heile is, how she came to be Tsarina’s prisoner, and exactly what freeing her costs. For the full choice-by-choice breakdown of her quest, see the Good Home choices guide.

Who Heile Is

Heile is the sister of Tonis, the coal burner who works out of Mert’s Mill in the Briar Sloughs. The siblings’ situation is the valley in miniature: a working family scattered by hard times, with Heile living “in a good home” that turns out to be anything but. When the Sanzhana - the valley’s tooth-trading fairies - entered her story, she ended up in the keeping of Sanzhani Tsarina, the faction’s queen, whose burrow in the Svartrau Outskirts doubles as a holding house for debts owed in the only currency the fairies respect.

Her captivity is not cruelty for its own sake - it is a bargain, and that distinction is the quest’s engine. Tsarina holds Heile as collateral in a trade, and trades, in the Sanzhana’s logic, have prices. Hers is three Shiny Teeth.

How the Story Unfolds

The Good Home quest begins north of Svartrau, at the Sandy Gorge Shrine: fairy lights and mushroom rings lead Coen to Tsarina’s burrow (the trail mechanics are covered in the mushroom rings guide). Tsarina’s first demand is the reunion itself - she wants Tonis brought to the burrow so the siblings can meet. That errand sends Coen into the Sloughs to find the coal burner and talk him into the trip, through a conversation where drink-money and honest patience pull in different directions (the full dilemma is in the Tonis choice guide).

Once the siblings are face to face, the real price surfaces: Heile’s freedom for three Shiny Teeth. The teeth are not a rare drop - they come off humans and the undead with reasonable frequency, and the teeth economy around the Sanzhana makes them a currency worth understanding. Deliver three, and Heile walks free; the helped Sanzhana relocate to Tsarina’s burrow, and the wider fairy chain - five quests, Lunka letters, and the only time extension in the game - opens from there.

What Heile’s Story Is Really About

Heile’s captivity is the Sanzhana arc’s thesis statement. Everything the faction does - the rings, the burrows, the enamel trade - runs on a logic of bargains with strange prices, and her freedom demonstrates that the prices are real but payable. Three notes for players:

  1. The teeth are the easy part. Finding Tonis and getting him to the burrow is where the quest spends its time; the teeth themselves are a short farming errand once you know the drop sources.
  2. Her freedom gates the faction. Tsarina does not open the wider Sanzhana chain - five more fairies, silk threads, Lunka’s letters - until the Good Home errand closes. Heile is, mechanically, the key to the valley’s best reward-per-minute content.
  3. Her ending is quiet by design. Freed, Heile leaves the burrow and the story; there is no follow-up saga. The game’s point is made in the leaving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Heile held? In Sanzhana Tsarina’s burrow in the Svartrau Outskirts, reached by following the mushroom-ring trail from the Sandy Gorge Shrine.

How many Shiny Teeth does her freedom cost? Three. They drop from humans and the undead; farming them is a short errand once the drop sources are known.

Can the trade fail or be refused? The quest’s choices shape how Tonis is found and what he thinks of the bargain, but the teeth-for-freedom exchange itself is the fixed price - see the Good Home choices guide for the variants.

Does Heile appear after being freed? Her story resolves quietly at freedom; the helped Sanzhana relocate to Tsarina’s burrow, and the faction’s wider chain opens from there.
