How the Trap Springs

“Home Sweet Home” begins at the top of Aurelius Tower in the southwest corner of The Silts. On the climb you fight through standard tower guards plus Svetlana, the Dark Prodigy — a witch boss who peppers her melee with witchcraft spells. At the top, a door with an hourglass prompt: opening it costs four time segments and drops you into a nightmare dressed as the prologue. You wake in Laslea Glen with your father telling you to chop wood.

The dream replays the village’s fall — the winged Keeper of Nightmares bursting through the roof, the family scattered, the church. Complete it once and the loop resets you back at the woodpile. Two warnings before anything else: every enemy inside scales to your current level while you carry none of your gear, so fights run far longer than they should; and make a separate manual save outside the tower if you want to see both outcomes.

The village dream that refuses to end

Escaping the Loop

Find the well. After your first full cycle, fight through to the siblings’ village area again — but this time, instead of climbing toward Pieter, turn into the side yard. The well is highlighted yellow in Focus Mode, and Coen’s inner voice will nag you toward it. Interact and answer the reflection’s questions; name Alin — the brother whose death the dream is built around.

The funeral sermon. The well route shadowsteps through a cave to ruins resembling the prologue church, where a priest falters through a sermon. When he pauses, examine the figures in order: Alin in the coffin, then Esme on the right, then young Coen on the left.

The meadow. Through the portal, inspect the memory objects — the toy, the swing, the log — with Focus Mode, then follow the torches down to the river. The dream-version of Alin tells you how he died and asks you to forgive yourself; every response reaches the same shore, so answer honestly.

Waking Up and the Loot

You surface on a table in the real tower as an astrologer tries to brain you with a hammer. Turn the tables, loot the body for the Astrologer’s Ring — legendary, with +11.2% witchcraft ability damage, +11.2% activation charge restoration from actions, −7% witchcraft ability cooldown, and +21% passive activation charge restoration — then check the study table on the top floor for the Flask of Quicksilver, one of the four Arbiter armor components. The quest also completes the Gargoyle Manufacture activity for Xanthe and raises your infamy.

The Secret Ending: Stay Forever

Ignore the well and simply complete the rescue loop about five times. At the start of the fifth cycle, talking to Esme ends the game for real: credits roll, and the Together Forever achievement pops. It is a genuine run-ender — you wake not at all — so treat it as a trophy detour on a dedicated save, then reload and escape properly. It counts toward the achievement list, and on Duelist it is famously miserable; save it for Story preset.

The Dream’s Combat Quirks

Two systems make Home Sweet Home’s fights feel wrong on purpose. First, scaling: every spectre and the Keeper of Nightmares match your current level, so a level-40 player fights a level-40 nightmare with prologue-tier equipment — the game is simulating helplessness, and succeeding too efficiently is almost missing the point. Second, gear stripping: your build, abilities, and consumables stay outside the door, so the loop’s fights are won with fundamentals — blocks, ripostes, dodges — rather than your vampire toolkit. VGC’s advice, and ours: treat the dream’s combat as atmosphere, not challenge. If a cycle is dragging, lower the difficulty sliders before entering; nothing inside voids any achievement except your patience.

Does Together Forever count as a full ending for other achievements? No — it is a standalone credits sequence and does not satisfy any ending-linked achievement. Use it only for its own trophy, then reload.

Can I loot the Astrologer’s Ring and still do the secret ending? Yes, but only across two saves: the ring comes from escaping, the ending from staying. Bank a manual save before the tower door and do the escape first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the dream missable? No fail state, but the four-segment entry cost is real — enter with segments banked, ideally at night for the combat advantages.

What level should I be? The tower and dream scale, so any level works; the fights simply run long if you arrive under-geared. The boss-order guide slots it comfortably in the mid-game.

Does Home Sweet Home affect the main endings? No branch changes — but the Together Forever detour ends the run outright, and the infamy gain feeds the court campaign.
