How to Beat Mihai in The Blood of Dawnwalker (Imbued Blade Duel)

Mihai boss guide: the Imbued Blade of Svartrau City in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Defeat him for the sword shard, complete Forge It Anew, and claim the best weapon.

Not every boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a vampire. Not every fight is about blood magic, wraith summons, or grotesque transformations.

Mihai is a swordsman. Just a swordsman. But the sword he carries is the reason you seek him out — and the reason this fight is worth having.

Who Is Mihai?

Mihai is the guardian of the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai — one of the shard-bearers you must defeat to complete the Forge It Anew quest. That quest assembles the strongest weapon in The Blood of Dawnwalker: a blade forged from shards scattered across Vale Sangora, each held by a worthy opponent.

He waits in Svartrau City, the capital. Not hiding. Not ambushing. Standing in the open, waiting for someone worth drawing against.

This is an optional boss. You can finish the entire main story without touching him. But if you want the best sword in the game — and you should, because the final stretch of The Blood of Dawnwalker is built around having it — Mihai is not optional at all.

Where to Find Him

Mihai is in Svartrau City, in the district near the cathedral. The exact location is marked once you have the Forge It Anew quest active — the quest giver points you to the shard-bearers, and Mihai’s position appears on the map.

If you have not started Forge It Anew, Mihai will not spawn. This is a quest-locked encounter. The all quests guide has the full chain.

The Fight: What Makes It Different

Every other boss in The Blood of Dawnwalker tests something specific — Ambrus tests parry timing, Bakir tests crowd awareness, Xanthe tests mechanical variety. Mihai tests pure dueling fundamentals.

No adds. No summoned creatures. No environmental interference. It is you, him, and the arena.

No phases. Mihai does not transform, escalate, or change patterns at low health. What you see in the first ten seconds is what you get for the entire fight. The only thing that changes is your stamina bar.

Holy damage. Mihai’s sword deals holy damage, which bypasses some defensive options available against vampiric enemies. If you have been relying on vampiric resistances or blood-based defenses, they do less here than you expect.

Fast strings, honest tells. His attack chains are quick — three to five hits in sequence — but every string has a clear start. The difficulty is not reading him. The difficulty is having the stamina and nerve to punish cleanly after.

How to Beat Him

Perfect Block is the entire fight. Mihai’s guard is not unbreakable, but it is close. Standard attacks bounce off with minimal stagger. The reliable opening is a Perfect Block into Perfect Riposte — the same mechanic that wins the Ambrus duel, but demanded more consistently here.

Do not trade. Mihai’s damage per hit is higher than any standard enemy in Svartrau City. Trading hits — even if you “win” the exchange — drains your healing faster than his. Defensive perfection is the only efficient path.

Stamina discipline. His strings are long. If you block everything, you will guard-break. Alternate between blocking the first two hits of a string and dodging the third — the third is almost always the heaviest.

Use the arena. The Svartrau City arena has pillars and elevation changes. Mihai tracks well, but his pathing around obstacles is not perfect. Breaking line of sight forces him to walk, not sprint — buying you breathing room.

What You Get

Defeating Mihai drops the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai shard — one of the components for the Forge It Anew quest. Collect all shards, return to the quest giver, and receive the assembled blade.

The Imbued Sword of St. Mihai is the community-agreed best weapon in The Blood of Dawnwalker for the endgame. Its holy damage is effective against every enemy type, its base stats outclass legendary alternatives, and its unique passive — bonus damage against vampiric foes — makes the final dungeon noticeably easier.

If you are preparing for Greifberg Castle and the Grotesque Ascendant, this sword is the single best investment of your time.

Preparation Checklist

  • Started Forge It Anew — Mihai does not spawn without it
  • Perfect Block proficiency — if you cannot reliably parry Ambrus, practice there first; Mihai demands more consistency
  • Stamina gear — anything that reduces stamina cost or speeds regeneration pays off here
  • Healing items — standard stock is fine; this is not a war of attrition, it is a skill check
  • No vampiric dependencies — holy damage ignores some blood-based defenses

How This Fits Your Run

Mihai is best fought in the mid-to-late game, after you have completed the court activities and before you enter Greifberg Castle. The Imbued Sword you earn from Forge It Anew is the weapon you want for the final act.

If you missed him and are already at the endgame, do not worry — he is still there. The Forge It Anew quest does not expire, and Mihai does not scale with story progress. A level-appropriate build from any point in the late game can handle him.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you fight Mihai without Forge It Anew? No. He is quest-locked. Start the Forge It Anew chain first.

Is Mihai a vampire? No. He is a human swordsman — one of the few non-vampiric bosses in The Blood of Dawnwalker. This is why holy damage from his sword is unusual; it is forged for killing vampires, and you are neither fully human nor fully vampire.

What is the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai’s stats? The assembled blade has the highest base damage of any sword in the game, plus bonus damage against vampiric enemies. Exact numbers vary by game version and difficulty; the beginner guide has general weapon progression advice.

Does defeating Mihai affect any ending? No. This is a side quest with no story consequences. The only impact is the weapon you earn — which makes every subsequent fight easier, including the ones that do decide endings.
