Where From Above Sits in the Story

“From Above” arrives immediately after Smoke and Ashes, the quest that takes Coen and Anca back to the ruins of Laslea and formally starts the thirty-day clock. It is a short bridging main quest — the last nudge of the tutorial structure before The Blood of Dawnwalker opens its map and tells you, in effect, to get stronger. The full arc is tracked on our main quests page.

The vantage point over Vale Sangora

The Walkthrough

The quest marks a tower within reach of Laslea. Head to the marker and drop down into the area — a three-enemy ambush waits at the base. It is the first fight where the game’s standard group dynamics click into place: manage spacing, block directionally, and let perfect blocks do the damage for you.

Once the area is clear, climb the tower. There is loot on the top floor just below the vantage point — sweep it before you finish, since the quest ends at the scout prompt and the game moves you on. Reach the vantage, press the prompted button, and Coen surveys Vale Sangora. Quest complete.

What From Above Is Really For

The scouting scene is a framing device: the valley spreads out below, region by region, and the game uses Coen’s monologue to mark the road ahead. Mechanically, its completion is the hand-off point — the moment the open world stops being a corridor. The quests that follow expect you to have begun the side-content economy in earnest: skill points, court infamy, Sanzhani favors, and gear progression through quests like Into the Den.

What to Do Immediately After

  1. Bank your first skill points along the day-by-day unlock order — the difficulty curve assumes you have.
  2. Activate shrines as you pass them; fast travel compounds over thirty days, and the skip-time shrines double as the waiting tool for timed content.
  3. Pick a region and clear it, per the clustering advice in our time management guide — partial quests cost more in revisits than skipped ones.
  4. Start the Sanzhani trail if you have not: the mushroom rings north of Sandy Gorge shrine open the chain that ends with an extra day.

The Tower Fight, Broken Down

The ambush at the tower’s base is the first three-on-one of the run, and it teaches the game’s crowd grammar: enemies queue rather than swarm, so the fight is really a series of duels with two spectators. Keep moving so the spectators stay spectators, block the active attacker’s string, and riposte — the fundamentals from the opening days handle everything this tower throws at you. If a fight here goes wrong, it is almost always because you backed into a corner; the arena is open, so use it. Loot the bodies before climbing — early denarii and crafting scraps compound — and sweep the top floor’s cache before pressing the scout prompt, since the quest ends on the interaction and the game moves the story forward immediately after.

What the Scout Actually Reveals

The vantage survey is short but pointed: Coen names the valley’s regions and their rulers, sketching the campaign ahead. It is worth paying attention rather than skipping, because the monologue plants the three boyars and their territories — the same geography the court system and boss order pages build on. Nothing is marked on the map by the scene itself; the real unlock work — shrines, question marks, wandering fairies — remains yours to do.

Does anything respawn at the tower later? No — the tower’s guards are a one-time set piece, and its loot is fixed. There is no reason to return.

One last note: because the quest moves the story forward the instant you scout, finish any Laslea-area business before pressing the prompt — the world opens on the far side, not back in the village.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is From Above missable or timed? No — it is a fixed story beat that waits for you, with no clock pressure of its own.

What level should I be for the tower fight? Whatever level Smoke and Ashes leaves you at; the three enemies are tuned as a tutorial-bracket fight, not a check.

Does the vantage reveal collectibles on the map? It frames regions narratively rather than marking points of interest; the real reveal work is done by shrines, question marks, and Focus Mode.

Can I come back for the tower loot after scouting? The tower itself stays accessible, but the quest’s forward momentum carries the story onward — loot before you scout, not after.

Is From Above the point of no return? No — the open world that follows is the opposite: the widest the game ever gets. The actual point of no return comes weeks later, at the final quest.
