Greifberg Castle Walkthrough: The Final Dungeon Step by Step

Greifberg Castle in Blood of Dawnwalker: the full final dungeon from tunnel infiltration to the throne room, every stage, and what your earlier choices change.

Greifberg Castle is the end of the road in The Blood of Dawnwalker — the seat of Brencis’s power and the whole final act of A Deal with the Devil. The castle is not a single boss arena. It is a multi-stage assault whose length and difficulty are decided days earlier, in choices you may not have realized were load-bearing. This walkthrough maps every stage so nothing in the final dungeon surprises you.

Before You Enter: Two Warnings

One: the point of no return already happened. Starting A Deal with the Devil locks the valley behind you. If you have not run the endgame checklist — ally questlines finished, gear repaired, healing stocked, master save made — reload that save now.

Two: the castle reads your save file. Three things reshape the dungeon: which Boyars you disrupted, whether you spared or killed Xanthe, and which allies finished their chains. The sections below flag each branch.

Stage 1: The Tunnel Infiltration

The assault begins underground. The approach tunnels are the quietest part of the castle — enemies in small groups, plenty of room to pick fights on your terms. This is where stealth-minded players shine: the tunnels are long, sightlines are short, and nothing here forces a loud fight.

The tunnels exist for pacing. Use them to warm up your parry timing and spend zero resources you do not have to — the courtyard is where the castle stops being polite.

Stage 2: The Prison Rescue

Mid-castle, the assault pivots: your family is in the Greifberg prison, and the rescue is why you came. The rescue itself is not a choice moment — if you reach it with your allies alive, your family lives. Family deaths in this game happen at the parley or through the deal, never in the cell block.

The emotional beat matters mechanically: after the rescue, the assault’s stakes are settled, and what remains is the throne room. The full family-condition breakdown is in the family survival guide; the routes that skip or endanger the rescue are mapped in fight or take your family and leave.

Stage 3: The Courtyard Siege

The courtyard is the castle’s loud middle act: open ground, multiple waves, and the first place the castle tries to spend your healing stock. Let the environment do work — chokepoints at the siege entrances keep the waves honest.

Branch — the Boyar minibosses: every Boyar campaign you skipped comes back here as an extra fight. Each undealt-with Boyar reappears inside Greifberg Castle, turning the siege into a marathon. Clearing all three court activities chains first is the single biggest difficulty lever in the finale — more than level, more than gear. The full mechanic is covered in castle minibosses.

Branch — the Unblinking Blasphemy: the gargoyle encounters inside the castle are unavoidable regardless of your choices. Budget for them.

Branch — Xanthe’s trap: if you killed Xanthe, the approach to the keep is trapped and the Blood Guard contest it. If you spared her, the path is cleared — her deal, repaid exactly when it matters. See Xanthe in the final assault.

Stage 4: The Throne Room

The throne room is Brencis — three phases, from human swordsman to vampire abilities to the desperation phase with its hard enrage timer. Depleting his first health bar does not end the fight: it drops you into Anachora, where the Grotesque Ascendant waits. The Brencis boss guide covers the fight phase by phase.

Which allies stand beside you here depends on the chain you finished: Lacra for The Patricide, Crake and the Manumits for The Knyazmaker, no one for the solo Folk Hero fight.

How Long the Castle Takes

Plan a single dedicated session of a few hours. The castle assault — tunnels, prison, courtyard, minibosses — is the bulk of it; the Brencis duel itself runs 10–20 minutes for practiced players and considerably longer on first attempts. Do not start the castle tired or short on consumables; there is no shopping trip inside.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you leave the castle once inside? No. Commit only after the master save, with stock at maximum.

Do the tunnels scale with level? No. The castle’s difficulty is choice-driven — Boyars cleared, allies alive, Xanthe spared — not stat-driven. The Brencis prep guide explains why the level question misses the point.

What is the hardest stage? The courtyard, if you skipped Boyars. Otherwise the throne room duel is the peak — specifically phase three’s enrage timer.

Is there anything missable inside the castle? Not permanently missable within the run, but loot carefully as you go — there is no return trip after the throne room.
