How to Cure Poison in Blood of Dawnwalker: Both Types Explained

Poisoned in Blood of Dawnwalker? Two types, two cures: Vrakhir blood poison cured by time, Tatzelwurm venom out-healed.

There is no antidote in Blood of Dawnwalker — and confusing the game’s two poison types is how players lose nights they did not need to lose. One poison is cured by time itself; the other you simply out-heal. This guide tells you which is which, and exactly what to do when the green bar starts draining.

How to cure poison cover

Poison Type 1: Vrakhir Blood Poison (Segment Countdown)

This is the special poison tied to Iulian’s plot: drink from Iulian’s poisoned blood, or drain Ambrus after he has been poisoned, and Coen takes a 10-time-unit countdown under the HP bar. It ticks in time segments, not seconds — and it follows rules no other status effect does.

The cure: advance time to daylight. Visit any shrine and pass time until morning; sunlight burns the poison away instantly, regardless of how many segments remain on the counter. Two refinements veterans use:

  • Spend the segments productively. Instead of choosing “Wait” at the shrine, unlock skills or perks that consume time segments — the poison ticks down while your character sheet gets stronger, so nothing is wasted.
  • Wolf-run to the shrine. If you are poisoned right after the Ambrus duel at St. Clement’s Monastery, the nearest shrine is Maragir Crossroads, just east. Shapeshift into wolf form and sprint.

Note that the poison lives on Coen’s vampire bar: it does not carry into human form, so a night-to-day transition clears it as a side effect of the transformation itself.

Poison Type 2: Enemy Venom (Real-Time Duration)

Tatzelwurms and certain other monsters apply ordinary venom that ticks HP damage in real seconds, with a short duration icon (typically around 10 seconds). No shrine, no daylight, no transformation touches it early. Your only job: stay alive until it expires.

  • By day: healing potions and Witchcraft abilities let you out-heal the ticks.
  • By night: Vials of Blood and Vampirism abilities do the same job.
  • Feeding on animals restores health but does not cure the status — it just buys HP against the damage.

Prevention: The Smarter Half of the Cure

With no consumable cure, avoiding the poison beats treating it:

  • Before drinking from a defeated vampire, check if they were poisoned. The green HP bar on Ambrus after The Bittersweet Toast is your warning sign.
  • At the Gilded Gauntlet duel, steer the drinking dialogue so Ambrus takes the poisoned cup — not Coen. The safest line is the distrustful one; it protects you while the poison still does its work on him.
  • Save before encounters with poison mechanics, and carry Minor Health Tonics wherever Tatzelwurms roam — the swamps around Vera’s trail are thick with them.

Why the Game Hides the Cure

The design intent becomes obvious once you see both systems side by side: the Vrakhir poison is a story poison, its cure tied to the day-night identity at the heart of the game — daylight literally burns vampire corruption out of the blood. The venom is a combat poison, a pressure mechanic that punishes careless fights with swamp lizards. Neither is meant to be itemized away, which is why the alchemy tree offers damage and buffs but no antidote. Once you internalize that, the correct response to any green bar becomes automatic: story poison, find a shrine; combat venom, win the fight or heal through it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does transforming into a vampire cure poison? It clears the segment poison incidentally, because that poison does not carry between forms — but the reliable, deliberate cure is advancing to daylight at a shrine. Real-time venom ignores forms entirely.

Is there any potion that cures poison directly? No. Multiple community-verified sources agree: no consumable removes poison. Healing items only offset the damage.

I drank Ambrus’s blood and I am poisoned — what now? If the duel is over, wolf-form to Maragir Crossroads shrine, spend segments on skills, and let sunrise clear it. If the duel is still ahead, you must fight through the countdown — save before attempting.

Does poison kill NPCs the same way? The Vrakhir blood poison kills Iulian on schedule unless the gland saves him — but that is scripted story, not the status system.
