Bakir Too Hard? How to Make the Lunar Game Easier
Is Bakir too hard in Blood of Dawnwalker? Five difficulty levers: level check, tournament allies, the Cockroach's drink, the riddle answer, and the mask trick.
“Bakir is too hard” is one of the most common early posts about The Blood of Dawnwalker — and almost every wall-trace comes back to the same finding: the fight is optional-shaped. The Mad Khan’s difficulty is decided by up to five levers you control, most of them pulled before a single sword swing. Run the checklist below before you touch the difficulty settings; the full strategy lives in the main Bakir guide, and this is the triage version.

Lever 1: The Level Check (20+)
Bakir’s region is tuned for level 20 and above. The boss order guide is explicit that arriving earlier means hitting a difficulty spike the game never intended. If you are under 20, the honest answer is: you are not bad at the fight — you are early for it. Go finish Ambrus’s chains, bank a few skill points, and come back with mid-game gear. An hour of prep beats an hour of deaths.
Lever 2: Recruit the Room
The tournament gives you three time segments before the bracket to work the competitors, and two of them can fight beside you. The full guide has the exact lines; the short version: the Marten joins after two specific dialogue choices, and the Porcupine joins if you simply tell him you intend to kill Bakir. Two allies in the bracket means fewer fights that are actually yours. The Rat cannot be turned — do not waste a segment on him.
Lever 3: Poison the Cockroach
The fourth competitor, the Cockroach, cannot be allied — but his drink can be dosed. The poison bush hides on the left side of his area, visible in Focus Mode. A sabotaged Cockroach spends the bracket fighting his own stomach, and your path to Bakir gets measurably shorter. This is the single highest-value segment in the pre-fight phase.
Lever 4: The Riddle Answer Is Left
Mid-tournament, the maze gate asks the Odd Riddle: silver shimmers right, summer light middle, blood and fear left. The wording is a trap built by a sadist — choose the left switch. The poetic-sounding options spring traps; the one that reeks of blood and fear is the only key, because Bakir loves tormenting people and the answer is the tormented one. The riddle guide covers the mechanics and the hidden gate combinations if you want the full puzzle map.
Lever 5: The Mask Trick
When you win the bracket, keep your mask on. The tournament’s final humiliation is designed so the host faces a masked stranger — Bakir isolates himself with you in the treasure vault on his own terms, turning what could be a chaotic multi-enemy brawl into the clean 1v1 the whole fight should be. Drawing attention to yourself earlier — by not cheering along during his speech, for instance — makes the night messier.
In the Duel Itself
With the levers pulled, the fight is a standard duel at a fair level: perfect-parry his combo finisher to open your punish windows, and save Piercing Shriek to break his dual-wield phase, per the main guide. Bring healing you are not ashamed to use, and remember the prep checklist logic applies to every Boyar: the duel is the exam, the levers are the studying.
Frequently Asked Questions
What level should I be for Bakir? 20+. The region, the yard fights, and the man himself are all tuned there, per the boss order guide.
Is Bakir harder than Ambrus? Bigger, not purer — Ambrus teaches the parry fundamentals that win Bakir’s fight. Most players who struggle with Bakir struggled quietly with Ambrus first.
Can you lower the difficulty mid-run? Difficulty settings exist; but the five levers above close most of the gap that sends people to the options menu. Try them first — the fight is fair once it is 1v1 at level.
Does draining him make the rematch worse? A drained Bakir returns inside the Brencis fight once, but Shadowstorm outvalues the extra rematch across the whole run.
