Live Bait Quest Guide - How to Help Your Siblings Fish
Live Bait is a prologue quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker. Help your siblings catch fish, find the fishing rods, and earn 100 XP without wasting Time Units.
Live Bait is one of the optional prologue quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker that helps you connect with Coen’s family while learning basic game mechanics. This short quest costs 1-2 Time Units and rewards you with 100 XP, making it a worthwhile early investment before the main story begins.

If you’re looking to complete every prologue activity or want to understand the family dynamics that influence later story beats, this guide covers everything you need to know about the Live Bait quest.
Quest Overview
Quest Name: Live Bait
Type: Side Quest (Prologue)
Location: Path in front of Coen’s Family Home, Laslea Glen
Time Cost: 1-2 Time Units
Recommended Level: 1-3
Rewards: 100 XP
Prerequisites: None — available after leaving the family home
How to Start Live Bait
After you leave your house during the prologue, look for your siblings hanging out on the path in front of your home. Pieter has told them to go fishing for the family, but they’re afraid to approach the river because wolves have been patrolling the area.
Time Management Tip: This quest uses 1-2 Time Units. If you’re optimizing your prologue, you can skip the optional tag game to save one Time Unit.
Walkthrough
Step 1: Decide on the Tag Game
As you walk with your siblings, you’ll stop for a cutscene with a choice:
- Play tag: Costs 1 additional Time Unit, minor relationship boost
- Tell them to stop complaining: Saves the Time Unit, no relationship penalty
Recommendation: Choose “stop complaining” to preserve Time Units for more important prologue activities.
Step 2: Find the Fishing Rods
Once you reach the river, use Focus Mode (L2/LT) to locate the fishing rods. They’re hidden near a bush just behind Yanna. Interact with the sparkling highlight to collect all four rods.
Step 3: Set Up and Bait the Rods
With all four rods in hand, set them up along the riverbank. Follow the on-screen prompts to bait each rod with worms. This triggers another cutscene where your dialogue choices don’t significantly affect the outcome.
Step 4: Deal with the Interruption
Eventually, you’ll be interrupted by one of Brencis’s men. Regardless of your dialogue choices here, a Urisash will join the conversation and send the officer away.
Dialogue Tip: While choices don’t have long-term consequences, being nice to the Urisash aligns with the “good guy” route that many players prefer for their first playthrough.
Rewards
- 100 XP
- Family relationship established with younger siblings
- Story context about Brencis’s influence in the region
Choices & Consequences
| Choice | Immediate Effect | Long-term Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Play tag | +1 Time Unit spent | Minor relationship boost |
| Stop complaining | Save Time Unit | None |
| Be nice to Urisash | Urisash leaves peacefully | May influence later Urisash encounters |
| Be rude to Urisash | Urisash still helps | None known |
Important: None of the choices in this quest lock you out of content or significantly alter the story. This is a safe quest to experiment with dialogue options.
Tips for Efficient Completion
- Skip the tag game if you’re optimizing Time Units for other prologue activities
- Use Focus Mode immediately upon reaching the river to quickly find the rods
- Save before starting if you want to see all dialogue variations without replaying
