Which Blood of Dawnwalker Ending Is Canon?

Is there a canon ending in Blood of Dawnwalker? The developers have not confirmed one, but narrative weight and sequel hints point to a likely answer.

There is no officially confirmed canon ending in Blood of Dawnwalker. The developers at Rebel Wolves have deliberately left all four full endings open, stating that player choice is the point. But if you look at narrative weight, sequel hints, and developer interviews, one ending carries more canonical weight than the others.

What the Developers Have Said

In a post-launch interview with IGN Poland, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz was asked directly: “Which ending is canon?”

His answer: “We don’t want to tell players their choice was wrong. All four endings are true. The story of Vale Sangora ends the way you decided it ends.”

This is a classic RPG developer stance — preserve player agency, avoid invalidating anyone’s playthrough. But Tomaszkiewicz added one interesting detail: “If we ever return to this world, we know which door we would open.”

That door, according to narrative designer Jan Bartkowicz, is the revolution.

Why The Knyazmaker Feels Most Canon

Narrative Weight

The Knyazmaker is the only ending where the central conflict — the slave rebellion led by Crake — actually resolves. The Manumit quest chain is the longest in the game, spanning six quests and multiple regions. It is the only questline that directly addresses the systemic oppression that defines Vale Sangora’s world.

The other endings resolve Coen’s personal story:

  • The Turncoat saves his family but damns the valley
  • The Folk Hero proves his strength but changes nothing
  • The Patricide avenges Lacra but leaves the system intact

Only The Knyazmaker addresses both personal and systemic stakes.

Sequel and DLC Hints

Dataminers have found references in the game files to “Laslea Liberated” — a potential DLC or sequel scenario that only makes sense if the rebellion succeeded. The file names suggest new content in a post-revolution Vale Sangora, which would require The Knyazmaker as the canonical outcome.

Additionally, the game’s official artbook (included in the Collector’s Edition) features concept art of a freed Laslea with the caption: “The future the developers envisioned.”

Achievement Design

The Knyazmaker has the most elaborate achievement unlock in the game. While all four full endings grant “A Deal with the Devil,” The Knyazmaker additionally unlocks “The Firebrand” — an achievement with unique art that appears in the main menu background after completion. This suggests the developers consider it the “full” experience.

The Case for No Canon Ending

Some players argue that insisting on a canon ending misses the point. The game’s themes — choice, consequence, and moral compromise — are undermined if one path is “correct.”

The Turncoat, in particular, has defenders who argue it is the most realistic ending. Coen is a father first, a hero second. Sacrificing the valley to save his family is the choice many real people would make.

The Folk Hero advocates point out that it is the only ending where Coen retains full agency — no deals, no allies, just his own strength.

What Most Players Choose

According to achievement statistics on PlayStation and Steam (as of September 2026):

EndingUnlock RateRank
The Folk Hero34.2%#1
The Knyazmaker28.7%#2
The Patricide18.3%#3
The Turncoat12.1%#4
Time Runs Out4.8%Bad ending
Early endings1.9% combinedRare

The Folk Hero’s popularity likely comes from its simplicity — no ally questlines required, just finish the main story. The Knyazmaker’s high rate despite its complexity suggests many players see it as the “intended” path.

The Verdict

Official canon: none. Rebel Wolves has not and may never confirm one.

Narrative canon: The Knyazmaker. If you want the ending that feels like the “real” story — the one the developers clearly invested the most resources in, the one that resolves the game’s central conflict, the one that a potential sequel would build from — this is it.

But the game is designed so that any of the four full endings feels like a valid conclusion. That is intentional, and it is a legitimate design choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will there be a sequel that confirms canon?

No sequel has been announced. Rebel Wolves has said they are “exploring the world further” but nothing is confirmed. If a sequel does happen, it will likely pick up after The Knyazmaker or use a “many worlds” approach that acknowledges all endings.

Does canon matter for achievements?

No. All four full endings grant the same completion achievement. The Knyazmaker has a bonus achievement, but it is not required for platinum.

What about the early endings?

A Hero They Deserve and Together Forever are explicitly non-canon. They are “what if” scenarios that end the story prematurely. No developer comment has ever suggested they are valid conclusions.
