Blood of Dawnwalker Final Boss Guide - How to Beat Brencis
How to beat the final boss in Blood of Dawnwalker. Brencis and his Grotesque Ascendant form require Perfect Block and riposte timing - here is the full strategy.
The final boss in Blood of Dawnwalker is Brencis, the Knyaz of Vale Sangora. The fight has two phases: a standard sword duel, then a transformation into the Grotesque Ascendant. Here is the full strategy, including the differences between solo and ally-assisted versions.

Prerequisites
Before you can fight Brencis, you must:
- Defeat all three Boyars through their court activities
- Reach the final quest A Deal with the Devil
- Have at least one healing item (two recommended)
The fight starts immediately after the final dialogue choice. There is no way to prepare once you are inside.
Phase One: Brencis, the Knyaz
Attack Patterns
| Attack | Telegraph | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Overhead slam | Raises sword high, pauses | Perfect Block, then riposte |
| Horizontal slash | Winds up to the side | Dodge backward or Perfect Block |
| Thrust | Low stance, sword pulls back | Sidestep, then punish |
| Grab | Opens left hand, lunges | Dodge sideways, heavy punish |
Strategy
Brencis fights like a powered-up version of the Boyars you already defeated. The key difference is his Perfect Block resistance — he will guard-break you if you block too many attacks in a row.
- Perfect Block the overhead slam — This is your main opening. The windup is long, and the riposte window is generous.
- Do not spam light attacks — Brencis parries predictable patterns. Mix in heavies and pauses.
- Watch for the grab — It deals massive damage and heals Brencis. Dodge sideways, then hit him with a full combo.
Solo vs. With Allies
If you brought Lacra or Crake (or both), the fight is easier:
- Allies draw aggro roughly half the time
- Brencis has about 20% less health per ally present
- You can heal more safely while he focuses on allies
If you are solo (The Folk Hero), the fight is longer and harder. Every attack is aimed at you. Play defensively and wait for Perfect Block openings.
Phase Two: Grotesque Ascendant
At roughly 50% health, Brencis transforms. His sword is replaced by blood tendrils, and his attack pattern changes completely.
New Attack Patterns
| Attack | Telegraph | Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Blood tendril sweep | Tentacles spread wide | Jump or use Planeshift |
| Ground slam | Both hands raise, red glow | Move sideways, heavy punish |
| Blood projectile | Brief charge, red flash | Dodge or hide behind pillar |
| Summon adds | Screams, red circle on ground | Kill adds fast or they heal Brencis |
Strategy
The Grotesque Ascendant is slower but hits harder. The fight becomes about positioning.
- Stay mobile — His blood tendrils track slowly. Keep moving and attack after his whiffs.
- Kill adds immediately — The summoned vampires channel a healing beam. If you ignore them, Brencis regains health fast.
- Use Planeshift — The ground slam is hard to dodge normally. Planeshift lets you phase through it.
- Save your riposte — The Ascendant has one riposte window after the ground slam. Do not waste it on light attacks.
Recommended Build
| Stat | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Vitality | 20+ | Survive the two-shot attacks |
| Strength | 15+ | Faster phase one |
| Endurance | 12+ | More dodges and blocks |
| Blood | 10+ | Healing item efficiency |
Recommended Equipment
- Weapon: Any upgraded tier-3 sword. The Bakir drop is ideal.
- Armor: Medium armor for balance. Heavy armor slows you too much for phase two.
- Items: 2x Blood Vial, 1x Antidote (the Ascendant can inflict Bleed)
Common Mistakes
“I keep dying to the grab”
The grab is the highest-damage attack in the game. Watch for the left-hand windup. If you see it, dodge sideways immediately. Do not try to Perfect Block it.
“Phase two takes forever”
You are probably ignoring the adds. Kill them the moment they spawn. The healing they provide makes the fight three times longer.
“I ran out of healing”
Enter with at least two Blood Vials. If you are solo, bring three. There is no way to restock mid-fight.
What Happens After
The cutscene depends on your ending choice. See the endings guide for what each one looks like.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I skip the final boss?
Yes. The Turncoat ending skips the fight entirely by siding with Brencis.
What level should I be?
There is no level, but your stats should total roughly 60-70 by the end if you explored. The fight is balanced for that range.
Is the final boss harder than the DLC bosses?
The base game final boss is harder than most DLC bosses. Only the secret DLC boss is comparable.
