Vicho guide cover

Vicho is the closest thing The Blood of Dawnwalker has to a vampire with a conscience - a vrakhiri who runs a curio shop in Svartrau City, sells some of the best gear in the game, and has no idea he has been murdering his own friends. His three-quest arc looks like a tidy murder mystery; it is actually a survival mission where the person you are trying to save is the killer. One wrong line in the final conversation costs you 4 Time Segments and a vendor you can never get back. This is the complete keep-alive route. For the truth about his case’s red herring, see the Simeon guide.

Part 1: Unlocking the Investigation

Vicho’s Emporium has no map marker - the quest is deliberately hidden. The requirements:

  • Night only. Every step of the arc is night-locked; by day the balcony door question does not even arise.
  • Balcony entry. The ground-floor door stays locked permanently. Use Shadowstep (with Planeshift chains for height) to reach the second-floor balcony and enter from above.
  • Time budget. Vicho refuses to start the investigation with fewer than 4 Time Segments left in the night. Arrive early or get turned away at the door.

The opening dialogue sets the tone; community guides recommend the cooperative lines (“Please, I mean no harm,” “It’s Coen,” “I’m looking for help,” “Ignorance breeds fear”) to earn his trust. Vicho then asks Coen to find out what happened to his friends Eli and Devora, starting A Study in Crimson.

Part 2: The Investigation and Simeon

Follow Vicho to the jeweller’s house: examine the rooms, check Devora’s body upstairs, then find Eli in the basement and take the Jeweller’s Key from him. It opens a locked container under the stairs holding a Lump of Silver and a Silver Cross - hold both. They belong to a specific silver buyer, not a generic merchant. Pay the guards outside 200 denarii for a proper burial - the decent option, and the one guides recommend.

The trail ends at a warehouse and the Doctor Simeon boss fight in the basement. Simeon is a vrakhiri who closes fast - sidestep left, keep pressure, and mind that he targets Coen even with Vicho in the room. Afterward, respond to Vicho with the reassuring chain: “Immortality, it’s a gift,” “That’s a cruel fate,” “It does make sense.” The journal marks the quest complete.

It is not complete. Loot Simeon’s key, open the hidden chest on the first floor, and read Ivo’s letter - the real killer was Vicho himself, acting in memory blackouts. The letter also sends you to Ivo’s farm south of the city, and the quest reopens: confront Vicho.

Part 3: The Good Samaritan

The confrontation objective will not trigger until the next daytime period, when a medic in Svartrau offers The Good Samaritan - a short follow-up errand that supplies the final piece of information. Do not skip it; it is the flag that unlocks the confrontation.

Part 4: The Confrontation - Exact Dialogue Chain

Return to the emporium at night, via the balcony, with a manual save made before talking. The branch is decided entirely by your replies. The consensus chain across community guides:

  1. “Vicho, we need to talk.”
  2. “You don’t remember.”
  3. “I’m sorry, but I think you’re the killer, Vicho.”
  4. “What happened to you, it’s terrible.”
  5. “Your condition, it’s a gift.”
  6. “But you have me now.”
  7. “I’ll provide you with blood.”
  8. “From blood transports.”
  9. “I don’t think you’re a monster.”

Some guides insert “Don’t do it, Vicho” / “Help others” between steps 4 and 6 - both variants work; the load-bearing beats are the blood offer and its concrete source. Sympathy alone does not hold him - without the supply line, he walks into the sunrise.

Failure and Success States

Fail: Vicho asks Coen to watch the sunrise with him - 4 Time Segments burn, he turns to ash, and his entire vendor inventory is gone for the save. Vicho’s Cross can still be recovered from a bench on the shop’s second floor.

Succeed: He stays, hands over Vicho’s Cross, and pays out the Mercenary’s Amulet, XP, and a skill point - plus the Unquenchable Thirst achievement. The follow-up Unquenchable Thirst quest stays open: every couple of nights, Vicho needs blood - Vial of Human Blood, Tainted Marrow, Murohn Blood, or Kobold Blood all work. Blood barrels in Ambrus’s camps are the most reliable stock source. Deliver before the night ends; letting a feeding prompt roll into daytime fails the obligation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I keep Vicho alive and still do his shop? Yes - surviving is what keeps the shop. Death removes his stock permanently.

What is the single most important line? “I’ll provide you with blood” backed by “From blood transports” - the concrete offer is what talks him down.

Does Vicho know he killed Eli and Devora? Not until you tell him. His amnesia is the tragedy at the center of the arc.

Is the 4 Time Segment requirement strict? Yes - arrive with fewer and he postpones to the next night. Budget the evening accordingly.
