How to Beat Brencis With Lacra (Patricide Fight Guide)

Beating Brencis with Lacra in Blood of Dawnwalker: how the Patricide version of the final fight differs, coordination tactics, and why this is the intended duel.

Fighting Brencis with Lacra is the version of the finale the whole game bends toward — the payoff of her six-quest chain, the heart of The Patricide ending, and a fundamentally different fight from the solo marathon. Where the Folk Hero duel is a test of personal perfection, the Lacra version is a test of coordination.

How You Get This Version

Two requirements, both decided before Greifberg:

  1. Finish Lacra’s entire chain — from A Friend Like This through Midnight Reckoning. Her finale quest is the assault itself; completing her chain is what puts her beside you in the throne room. The full order is in the Lacra character guide.
  2. Refuse the parley deal. The Turncoat route skips the fight entirely; fighting at the parley ends the family. The Lacra version lives inside the full allied assault — Midnight Reckoning at night, vampires, the castle taken the hard way.

If both are true, the throne room becomes a two-against-one duel, and the fight’s math changes completely.

What Lacra Changes in the Fight

Aggro splits. Brencis divides his attention between two targets, and every string he commits to one of you is a string the other punishes for free. Solo, a mistake costs you health; with Lacra, a mistake often costs nothing because she holds his attention through it.

The pressure valve. The solo version of the fight is a marathon of patience — the Brencis solo guide exists because that version is the hardest encounter in the game. With Lacra, the same three phases (human swordsman, vampire abilities, desperation) play at a moderated tempo. Community consensus: the ally versions sit well below the solo route in difficulty.

Her story, your mechanics. Narratively, this is her kill as much as yours — she crossed the world for it, and the tower reveal made sure you know why. Mechanically she fights as competent ally AI: she engages, draws strings, and creates the distraction windows you convert into damage.

Coordination Tactics

The fight rewards two habits, and punishes one:

  • Focus fire when he commits. When Brencis locks onto either of you with a string, the other should be dealing damage — not racing to steal aggro. A boss dividing attention between two targets takes double the punishment during every committed animation.
  • Be the patient one. Lacra’s aggression invites you to match it. Brencis punishes exactly that — his phase-two vampiric sweep and phase-three enrage timer both prey on greed. Let her be the hot hand; you stay disciplined.
  • Do not stack on her. His ground-slam AOE in phase three has a safe zone at his feet — see the phase guide in the main Brencis page — and standing beside your ally turns his multi-target strings into multi-target hits.

Phase-specific notes: In phase one, let Lacra pressure while you bank gold pips. In phase two, her presence makes the bleed stacks easier to manage — he is far less likely to stack three on you when he keeps turning to face her. In phase three, the enrage timer still applies; divide roles — one of you baits the slam, the other punishes the recovery.

After the Duel: Anachora

Depleting Brencis’s first health bar transports you to Anachora, where the Grotesque Ascendant phase plays out — and Lacra’s arc reaches its conclusion there. What the throne room fight decides, the ending sequence names: The Patricide, the darkest of the four full endings and the most personal, because the person beside you has her own claim on his death. The endings guide maps how it compares to every other outcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Lacra version easier than solo? Yes — dramatically. The solo Folk Hero fight removes ally interventions entirely; with Lacra, aggro splitting moderates every phase.

Does romancing Lacra change the fight? No mechanical change — dialogue and epilogue only. The fight is the same whether or not the romance happened.

Can you get this version and Crake’s version in one run? No — the finale assault commits to one ally’s route per playthrough. For both, use the master save before A Deal with the Devil and branch; the endgame guide explains the save strategy.

What if her chain is unfinished? Then she is not in the throne room. Incomplete chain means the solo version — or Crake’s, if his chain finished instead.
