Vera: Vendor Guide & What She Sells
Vera in Blood of Dawnwalker: the day-only swamp vendor selling 22 Witchcraft manuals, her hut between Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds, and the deadly side quest.

Vera is the most important vendor in The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Witchcraft economy - a poisoner-herbalist living in a woodland hut between the Briar Sloughs and the Maragir Wealds (southeast of Mert’s Mill), stocking 22 skill manuals and a shelf of crafting recipes that no other single shop matches. She is also a vendor who can die, permanently taking her stock with her. If your build touches Witchcraft - and in this game, most night builds should - Vera is a pilgrimage, not an option. The manual-by-manual map is in the skill manual locations guide; this page covers the shop itself.
Location and Hours
Vera’s hut sits deep in the eastern swamp country, reachable from the Briar Sloughs side. Her schedule is the single most-missed detail about her:
- Day only. Vera stands in her hut’s yard during daylight and does business there.
- Night: locked. After dark she sleeps inside with the house locked. A night visit is a wasted trip through poison swamp.
Plan her into a daytime circuit - the same sweep that covers the Briar Sloughs towers and the Mert’s Mill area - and check in every in-game day or two, because her stock restocks daily.
What Vera Sells
Community cataloguing (MetaBot’s vendor database) logs 85 stock lines across her shop, weighted toward manuals, materials, and consumables. The headline category is the manual rack - 22 Witchcraft manuals, including:
- Herb and healing line: Herbal Remedies I and II, Medicus I and II
- Core Witchcraft: Evil Eye, Potent Blood, Soul Reaping, Soul Stigma, Amalgam, Forbidden Sigils, Aether Flow, Unholy Fervour, Blasphemous Echo, Frugal Witchcraft, Unnatural Resilience, Witchcraft Mastery, Burning Blood, Unholy Vitality, Cycle of Ruin, Mercurial Fervour
- Utility: Forager, Lasting Malediction
Several of these are Witchcraft staples with no early alternative source - Evil Eye (the critical-cast skill), Potent Blood (the chance to cast without paying health), and Lasting Malediction (extended durations) all flow through Vera’s rack. She also carries crafting recipes - the Bittersweet Toast thread alone nets the Recipe for Animal Blood Infusion from her hut - plus attunement consumables and the usual ingredient spread.
Two shopping mechanics matter:
- Stock rotates with story progress. Not every manual is guaranteed on every visit; her selection shifts with the current story day and shop window. If a specific manual is not on the rack, come back after story progress.
- Bewitching Influence unlocks more. Reaching rank 3 in the Bewitching Influence tree opens an additional special-offer selection at this merchant.
Vera also buys broadly - junk, consumables, ingredients, gear, books, and even skill manuals - making her a full-service stop for the economy loops that fund Witchcraft’s health-for-power exchanges.
The Death Risk: Bittersweet Toast
Vera’s personal thread, The Bittersweet Toast, is one of the sharpest choice-reward gaps in the game - and it carries a character death tag. Vera can die in this quest, and if she dies, her shop dies with her: 22 manuals, the recipes, the daily restock, all gone for the save. Manual-completionists therefore share one rule: buy what you need from her before finishing her questline, and check the Iulian poison choice before committing - the duel at its center is where her survival is decided, and the “best combat reward” path is not the one that keeps her alive.
Shopping Strategy
- Visit early, visit often: unlock her as soon as the swamp is survivable, and buy target manuals the day they appear - stock rotates, and later is never guaranteed.
- Prioritize one-per-save staples: Evil Eye, Potent Blood, and Lasting Malediction have limited alternative sources; grab them on sight.
- Bank Bewitching Influence: if her special offers matter to your build, rank the tree to 3 before the big shopping trip.
- Sell to her, buy from her: her buy list is wide and her location is central to mid-game routing - clear pack weight, fund the next manual.
- Finish her quest last: quest completion is the point of no return for her stock; do it only when her rack holds nothing else you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Vera’s hut exactly? Between Briar Sloughs and Maragir Wealds, in the eastern swamp southeast of Mert’s Mill - follow the region guide’s swamp circuit and you will pass it.
Why is her door locked? It is night. Vera only trades from her yard during daylight hours.
Can I still get her manuals if she dies? Some have alternatives - several overlap with the Uriash Matriarch’s stock (see the manual locations guide) - but her unique daily-rotating access is gone permanently.
What currency does she take? Standard denarii; her catalogued prices run from roughly 270 to 560 denarii per manual line.
